Great Golfers Of The Major
Great Golfers of The Major Golf Championships
The Major golf tournaments include the best players of the PGA Tour. From generation to generation, a few players have played in and won a number of Major golf tournaments. These are a few of the great golfers of the Major golf championships that have done so.
Woods:
Of the present generation, Woods has been the most successful player on the PGA Tour. In fact, not only this, with 14 Majors he has won more Major titles that almost any other golf player. Woods started playing in the Majors during the ’90s, and in ’98 won his first Major golf tournament at the US Masters. In 2000, he then started to dominate the Major championships and went on to win four Major titles in a row, and is the only player to have held all four Major titles. Today, he has won a total of 14 Majors during his golfing career. Currently still the top ranked golfer, Woods could still win a few more Majors and edge closer to the overall record.
Nicklaus:
The record number of Major wins is held by Nicklaus who remains the most successful player in Major golf tournament history. Nicklaus won a total of 18 Major golf titles during his career. Most of these came in the ’60s and ’70s where he set new golfing records. However, Nicklaus continued to win Major titles into the 1980s when he won a final Major at Augusta in his early ’40s. This 18th Major title remains a record to this day.
Player:
Player holds the record number of Major golf tournament wins for a non-American golfer. The South African played at a time when the US golfers were particularly dominant in the sport, and was one of the few non-American golfers who won Major titles at the time. His first Major title win came in 1959 at the UK Open, and from here he won all the Major golf tournaments culminating with a third US Masters title in 1978. As such, Player won 9 Majors in total and was undoubtedly one of the great golfers of the Major championships.
Palmer:
There were a few golfers who won more Major golf tournaments, but Palmer played some fine golf and became a pioneer for the sport. He also won a good number of Major titles too, with seven Majors won in total. These included two UK Open titles won in 1961 and 1962, and four Masters golf tournaments were won in a period of six years. Beyond 1964, Palmer could not win further Major titles but always had plenty of fans.
So, these were a few great golfers of the Major golf tournaments. Four golfers who broke and set new records in the Majors, and won multiple Major titles between them.
